BBC Breakfast confirm Sally Nugent as Louise Minchin's replacement laving viewers divided

BBC Breakfast viewers are torn after bosses finally confirmed Sally Nugent Louise Minchin's replacement.

After announcing in the summer that she'd be leaving the show after nearly 20 years as host, Louise bid a final farewell to viewers and long-standing co-presenter Dan Walker in September.

Giving a moving send-off to Louise, Strictly star Dan said: "I don't know what I'll do without you.

"What I do know Louise is that whatever you do next you'll be brilliant, because that's just what you do.

"I think, there are two types of family - ones that you're born with and ones that you find along the way and it's been an enormous privilege to share this sofa and all of us here will miss you enormously and the programme will never ever be the same again"

Like Dan, viewers were gutted to see Louise go and, many have reacted to Sally's appointment as her replacement.

Thrilled at landing the job Sally commented: "I’m absolutely thrilled to become the new presenter of BBC Breakfast and bring the nation the latest news, top entertainment guests and stories that matter every week.

"It’s an honour to take the reins from Louise and be part of the UK’s most watched breakfast show.”

BBC Breakfast fans have taken to Twitter Oooooh only yesterday I was muttering today myself jt better be you taking up the job!!! Xo air their opinions on Sally getting the role, with one tweeting her to say: "Congratulations Sally I was waiting to see who was going to take louise's place so glad it's you"

Another reacted: "Yes yes well done and well deserved Sally. If anyone could replace Louise it was you!!!!" and a third posted: "That's brilliant, Sally!!! I have been hoping you would get the job. Fantastic journalist and presenter."

However, not a fan of the news, one fed up viewer blasted: "Oh dear the BBC being dumbed down even more."
