BBC Better viewers slam 'waste of time' ending as they make demand

Unhappy Better viewers have slammed the "absolute waste of time ending" from the BBC drama while some have shared their theories over what could happen next.

The popular Leeds-based and filmed crime drama was made up of a total of five episodes and starred Leila Farzad as DI Lou Slack and Andrew Buchan as criminal Col McHugh. Throughout the show, corrupt DI Slack tried to find a way out and to turn her life around but instead created even more problems for herself and those around her.

During the grand finale of series one tonight, her actions saw her colleague DC Esther Okoye (Olivia Nakintu) go on sick leave due to stress and DI Slack's ally, Vernon Marley, played by Anton Lesser, got killed while in prison. DI Slack started running out of time and decided to confront Col in a dramatic showdown.

Many predicted an action-packed finale with at least one of them ending up dead. However, in a surprise twist, DI Slack convinced Col to come clean instead.

The final scene showed them both waiting at the police station, ready to give their statements. Some viewers said they were disappointed by the last episode and said the ending appeared abrupt.

@knackered_man wrote on Twitter: "Better really needed a better ending!!"

@juliecw65 said: "Well that was a waste of six hours of my life."

@Rammo22 complained: "Did they lose the last page of the script? FFS."

@Peachyfruitcake said: "What an absolute crock of s**** - waste of time!"

@moridura criticised: "Better (BBC1) was a promising, well-acted crime drama but sputtered out in tonight's final episode like a damp squib. As in chess, the endgame is everything, and scriptwriters who can't end their drama should find another line of work."

@Lewesroyal tweeted: "That was a disappointing finish."

And @sam__wxm commented: "Rather obscure ending to a decent drama."

Meanwhile, @demelcy predicted: "And then they were both silenced in prison."

And @Arnold__Simon said: "#Better A dark drama with a touch of humour at the end, when a corrupt cop and gang leader hand themselves in, yet have trouble getting an officer to deal with it. I feel a little cheated by the ending. Worth the five-week journey."

Not everyone agreed though and some are asking for a second series

@CEMichael liked the last episode, saying: "Brilliant ending to Better. Sets up second series with Lou and Col as unlikely crime fighting partnership. Really sorry Vernon had to go though."
