BBC Better viewers abandon 'disappointing' Leeds drama for ITV1 rival Unforgotten

Viewers of the BBC One thriller Better say they have been switching over in their droves after the return of ITV1 rival drama Unforgotten.

BBC One's gritty new drama set and filmed in Leeds made its debut on February 13. The five-episiode series followers the life of DI Lou Slack, played by Leila Farzad trying to bring down Col McHugh, played by Andrew Buchan, now the head of a Leeds criminal underworld.

Tonight's episode, the third of series one, saw Lou and Vernon's plans to take Col down threaten a bloody gang war, while Owen and Donal continued to become closer. Lots of dodgy dealings were going on throughout the episode, including a stand-off between the cops and gang members.

Vernon, played by well-known actor Anton Lesser is a disgraced former cop, often seen with a cigarette and a disheveled outfit. He was working with the officers to try and get word into Bradford prison which leads to one prisoner being thrown down some stairs.

Vernon's work saw the gang war stopped in its tracks. Lou sheepishly stopped a group of men entering Leeds, luckily finding some white powder after the men claimed they were taking pakoras to a local food bank.

There had been hopes it might take the place of the massively popular Happy Valley, but the latest episode to air has also received a cold shoulder on social media, with a number of people switching off to watch ITV's Unforgotten.

People took to social media to continue to say how underwhelming the show has been. Commenters said the show was no longer worth watching, as they turned over to watch Unforgettable.

@Angela said: "I've recorded #Better so will watch it later, now #Unforgotten."

@Milo said: "Welcome back #Unforgotten, doubly welcome that we can sack off #Better.

Sarcastically, @Oli said: "#Better I'm glad they will have a reminder of what happened so far."

@Reba said: "#Better tweet frequency is very low - has everyone jumped ship to #Unforgotten?"

@Linda added: "Definitely #Unforgotten as couldn't get into #better"

@Ing wrote: "Hmm not a patch on #Unforgotten"

@Joan said: "Loved #The Gold haven't heard of #Better don't know that I'll bother if it's preposterous."

@Simona said: "I've started so I'll finish #Better" followed by a winky face.

@Lshirelad said: "I really wanted to like #Better on @bbcone but it seems to lack something. It has the premise of a gripping drama but it's just a bit dull."

@Russel added: "Given up on #better can't warm to any of the characters in the slightest."
