THE BBC is removing Huw Edwards from some of its archival footage after the former broadcaster plead guilty to making indecent images of children.
Edwards was once one of the corporation’s most prominent news presenters, fronting coverage of major events such as the Queen’s death and General Elections.
But on Monday the Metropolitan Police announced that it was charging Edwards with making indecent images of children.
He was accused of possessing 37 photographs sent via WhatsApp, six of which were of the most serious criminal category.
On Wednesday, he plead guilty and, if convicted, could face up to 10 years in prison.
Now, the BBC has said it is removing Edwards from some of its archival footage as a result of his alleged crimes.
A BBC spokesperson said: “As you would expect we are actively considering the availability of our archive.
"While we don't routinely delete content from the BBC archive as it is a matter of historical record, we do consider the continued use and re-use of material on a case-by-case basis.”
An episode of Doctor Who which features Edwards’ voice hasalready been taken off the BBC iPlayer while a mural of the presenter in his home town of Llangennech in Carmarthenshire was painted over by the artist Steve Jenkins on Tuesday.
