The BBC has axed a quiz show fronted by a popular sports personality after just two series. At the time of launching the series, the BBC branded the show "the ultimate knockout competition, where eight players battle each other on the Tournament".
But after just two series, the BBC has called time on The Tournament, which is hosted by Alex Scott. The show saw eight players battled it out as they took part in a series of tug-of-war quiz matches. The show aired in an afternoon slot on BBC One.
Birmingham Live reports Alex, 38, had presented both series of the programme. A spokesperson for the BBC confirmed the show was to come to an end. They said: “The Tournament had two great series but we need to make room for new opportunities. "We'd like to thank Alex and the team for all their hard work.”

The series was described as an "exciting tug-of-war quiz matches they attempt to knock their opponents out of the game and steal their cash". Only one player made it to the end, when they then had the chance to double their money on the Golden Run.
BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Scott said at the time of the second series being confirmed: “I'm thrilled to be hosting a second series of the 'The Tournament' for BBC Daytime. I can't wait to welcome players from all over the UK to join me on the Tournament Run, and to see who has what it takes to become champion in TV's ultimate knockout quiz.
"I’m hoping viewers will love the high energy it brings, and watching all the fantastic contestants battle their way through the competition. Its’s a show full of strategy and risk, where favourites can be overthrown and underdogs can end up top dog! Although it’s super cheesy to say, I really do think what we’ve done with The Tournament makes me feel like I want to be contestant! It’s fun, it’s accessible, it’s different. It’s open to everyone."
