The BBC has made the move to scrap an iconic Christmas Day programme after 57 years on television.
Top of the Pops has now been axed by the BBC, reports Birmingham Live. Whilst the weekly programme was axed on 2006, the BBC kept the annual show on BBC One on December 25.
A source said: "Beeb bosses felt the cost involved in creating a one-off show like this were too high to justify.

"Creating the studio and bringing together a string of artists to perform for just this programme required a disproportionate amount of resources. But it will be seen as the sad end of an era by millions of Brits who saw it as a Christmas Day must-watch along with the Queen's Speech."
Top of the Pops debuted as a weekly show in 1964, and also had a festive special that initially aired on Christmas Eve. The following year it started airing on Christmas Day, where it has stayed ever since.
The festive specials air on Christmas Day afternoon on BBC One, with a New Years special also being broadcast since 2008. A new logo and title sequence were introduced on the 2019 Christmas special.
The BBC's Head of Music Television, Mark Cooper, continued to oversee the programme as executive producer until 2019 when he was replaced by Alison Howe.
Stephanie McWhinnie became producer from Christmas 2011, and was replaced by Caroline Cullen in 2020, who had previously worked as assistant producer on the show.
Both of the festive shows were recorded with new studio performances but no live audience physically in attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This year there will be Top of the Pops: Review of the Year on BBC2 on Christmas Eve at 10.40pm. The BBC declined to comment.
