BBC apologise for Sunderland's Jill Scott's angry reaction in England Euro 2022 final

The BBC has apologised after its cameras picked up some choice words from England midfielder Jill Scott after she was brought down in the Euro 2022 final.

The 35-year-old Manchester City midfield was caught shouting "f*** off you f***ing prick" after being caught by a late challenge from Bayern Munich's Sydney Lohmann. In response, BBC commentator Robyn Cowen apologised to anyone who had found the comment offensive, the Express reports.

Sunderland-born Jill said: "Apologies to any lip readers. Not sure you need to be one to figure out what Jill Scott thought of that."

The experienced midfielder was brought on in the 89th minute to replace Georgia Stanway, who was on a yellow card. Just before the end of the first half, 22-year-old Lohmann pulled down the veteran midfielder, sparking anger as she fell to the ground.

Scott has won 161 caps during the last 16 years and is one of the most experienced players in the England squad. And despite her angry reaction, she had a smile on her face not long after, when Chloe Kelly scored the winner - and her first ever England goal.

The victory would have been particularly poignant for Scott, the only survivor from the Lionesses' 6-2 defeat to the same opposition- in 2009's final in Helsinki, Finland. Ella Toone opened the scoring in the 62nd minute before Lina Magull equalised and took the match to extra time.

There were fears that England would have to face an old foe at penalties, but Kelly's goal prevented that and there were jubilant scenes after the final whistle went, with Sweet Caroline blaring through Wembley's sound system and Kelly running off with a microphone during an interview as she went to celebrate with her teammates. Once the celebrations are over (which may be a while) it is hoped that generations of young girls will take up football and further grow the sport in England.

Do you think what Jill Scott said was justified? (We do). Let us know!
