BBC Antiques Roadshow's 1970s doll collection worth thousands leaves fans terrified

Antiques Roadshow viewers were terrified as a 1970s doll collection was valued on tonight's show.

Fiona Bruce returned to host another edition of the popular BBC programme on Sunday. The latest roadshow took place at the Ulster Folk Museum.

An owner on the latest edition brought her collection of Blythe Boutique dolls to be valued by Judith Miller. The guest had received the doll as a gift from her mum's American friend in the 1970s.

The dolls were only sold in 1972 and were discontinued due to poor sales. The expert said it was obvious why they were taken off the shelves and the owner agreed she was frightened by the dolls when she was a child.

She added: "They do have one special feature which makes them even more terrifying for most little girls, which is that if you pull this string then the eyes change colour."

The collection of dolls was estimated to be worth around £5,000 (BBC)

However, the owner said she has developed an obsession with the dolls as she got older. She added: "The retro feel of these captures that groovy 70s appeal."

The guest had built up a wide collection of dolls along with different outfits and accessory. Judith said the dolls were rare and estimated the overall collection would be around £5,000. She added: "It's just a fascinating collection and they look great. But I can totally understand why they didn't work. I mean what young girl would want to have that click and those eyes turning different colours."

Viewers following the show on Twitter were terrified by the segment and claimed the dolls would give them nightmares.

JJ Allerton tweeted: "Great– I won't sleep tonight"

Jackie said: "That’s my nightmares sorted for tonight"

Gillian added: "Anyone who bought those dolls for their children needs serious help!!"

Luci posted : "Terrifying doll alert on #antiquesroadshow (they’re actually brilliantly groovy)."

Sylvie tweeted: "Oh Lord no, hideous dolls."
