See which BBC presenters got the biggest pay cuts and pay rises this year

THE BBC'S annual report for 2023/2024 has been released, revealing which stars got pay rises and pay cuts.

Notable on the list is former BBC presenter Huw Edwards, who went from fourth to third place on the list despite leaving the corporation in April.

Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker has topped the list for the seventh year running at £1.35 million or more, and remains the only one earning more than £1m per year, unchanged from 2022/23.

BBC Radio 2 breakfast show presenter Zoe Ball came second on the list, earning £950,000-£954,999, down from £980,000-£984,999 last year.

Huw Edwards jumped from fourth to third place this year, making £475,000-£479,999, up from £435,000-£439,999.

The annual report confirmed that Edwards left the BBC without taking a settlement payment, which could have entitled him to around £900,000 due to his contract lasting another two years.

BBC director-general Tim Davie defended Edwards’s £40,000 pay rise, saying: “We are always trying to be very judicious with the spending of public money and no-one wants to waste a pound.

“But what you’re trying to do, and from the onset of that affair, was trying to act proportionally, fairly and navigate this appropriately."

Greg James of Radio 1 came fourth at £415,000-£419,999, up from £395,000-£399,999, while BBC NI presenter Stephan Nolan and Question Time and BBC News presenter Fiona Bruce coming in at joint fifth with £405,000-£409,999.

Bruce got a raise from the £395,000-£399,000 bracket, while Nolan came up from the £400,000-£404,999 range.

BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne came in seventh at £395,000-£399,000, up from £390,000-£394,999, and Match of the Day star Alan Shearer came in eighth at £380,000-£384,999, a decrease from £445,000-£449,999.

Tied for ninth, presenters Naga Munchetty and Nick Robinson rounded out the list at over £345,000, with Munchetty increasing from £335,000-£339,000 and Robinson coming up from £275,000-£279,999.

The salaries of many of the BBC’s most famous faces are not disclosed on the list.

This is because the corporation does not have to reveal the salaries of people who are paid through production companies, including the BBC’s commercial arm BBC Studios.

This means ubiquitous presenters and personalities such as Michael McIntyre, Lord Sugar, Bradley Walsh and Alex Jones do not feature.

It also explains the absence of Strictly Come Dancing presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who also hosts another of the BBC’s popular entertainment shows, The Traitors.

The remainder of the list is as follows: 11. Mishal Husain £340,000-£344,999 (up from £315,000-£319,999) 12. Laura Kuenssberg £325,000-£329,999 (up from £305,000-£309,999) =12.
