Bazaar rescue helps ensure Lanarkshire not-for-profit organisations can help Santa with toy appeal

Two not-for-profit community groups in Wishaw set up to help hard-pressed families will be raising funds for their festive toy appeal by selling their wares at a church’s Christmas Bazaar.

By selling new, pre-loved, and nearly new clothing at discount prices from a container in the town, Charity@Home raise money to buy food vouchers for families. And Resourceful Community Volunteers sell items donated to them with the profit again going to help families to make ends meet.

Charity@Home was started up two years ago by mum-of-four Angie Cheney with the help of family and friends.

They’ve again linked with Resourceful Community Volunteers, which was launched over seven years ago by fellow-Wishaw woman Catherine Craig, to raise money for their Christmas Toy Appeal and help make the day a happier time for children living in the community.

The two got together at Christmas last year and helped ensure more than 100 children received presents and had a special time with their families.

This year with even more families struggling due to the cost of living crisis they are launching a toy appeal to ensure children get a toy from Santa.

The two organisations had hoped to hold their own joint two-day fundraising event in the town but had problems with the intended venue.

St Ignatius’ Church kindly stepped in and offered them space at their Christmas Bazaar at the Loyola Centre in Campbell Street.

Angie said: “St Ignatius’ have kindly given us four tables to allow us to raise funds for our toy appeal to help as many children as possible have a visit from Santa.”

As well as giving people the chance to pick up Christmas gifts, there will be raffles, tombola, bric-a-brac, and face painting, and a whole lot more.

Everyone is welcome to the event which takes place on Saturday, December 10, at the Loyola Centre from 1pm to 4pm.
