Bayesian superyacht sinking: Who are the six people missing?

Six tourists remain missing after a luxury superyacht sank as it was hit by a tornado off the coast of Sicily early on Monday.

The British-flagged Bayesian was carrying 10 crew members and 12 passengers, including Brits, Americans and Canadians. It capsized at about 5am local time (4am BST), roughly 700 metres off the coast of Palermo.

On Monday, rescue teams recovered the body of the yacht's onboard chef, identified as Antiguan citizen Ricardo Thomas, Reuters reports.

Fifteen people were rescued including a mother and her one-year-old daughter.

Here is a list of those who are still believed to be missing.

Mike Lynch

The boat trip had been organised by British technology tycoon Mike Lynch for his work colleagues and lawyers after he was acquitted in a major fraud case, survivors of the disaster have said.

Mr Lynch founded software giant Autonomy in 1996, and made his name as one of Britain’s most influential entrepreneurs through the company.

He has been described at points as the Bill Gates of Britain after founding the company, which became one of the biggest enterprise software firms on the planet.

He was cleared in June of conducting fraud relating to an $11billion (£8.64 billion) sale to US company Hewlett Packard.

He would have faced more than 20 years in a US prison if convicted of the fraud and conspiracy allegations, and the Times reported that he spent 13 months under house arrest awaiting the trial that ended in June.

The trip had reportedly been organised for Mr Lynch’s work colleagues and for lawyers who helped clear his name in the long-running fraud case.

Mr Lynch was born in Ilford and was made an OBE for services to enterprise in 2006.

Hannah Lynch

Mr Lynch’s teenage daughter Hannah is also among those missing after the boat sunk, Sicily’s civil protection agency told the BBC. She is reported to be 18 years’ old.

Jonathan Bloomer

The chairman of Morgan Stanley International bank and the former chief executive of Prudential Jonathan Bloomer is also missing.

He is also an alumnus of Imperial College London, from which he graduated with a BSc in physics in 1974.

The Financial Times reported Mr Bloomer appeared as a defence witness for Mike Lynch at his trial that ended in June, while media reports suggest the pair are close friends.

The 70-year-old Briton is chair of the insurance company Hiscox, reports the BBC.

The boss of insurance group Hiscox said he was "deeply shocked and saddened" as he confirmed the company's non-executive chairman Mr Bloomer and his wife are among those missing on the yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily.

Judy Bloomer

Mr Bloomer’s wife Judy is also reported missing after the Bayesian yacht sank.

Aki Hussain, the group chief executive of Hiscox, said: "We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected, in particular our chair, Jonathan Bloomer, and his wife Judy, who are among the missing, and with their family as they await further news from this terrible situation."

Mrs Bloomer has been a trustee of UK gynaecological cancer research charity The Eve Appeal for more than 20 years and has been hailed a “brilliant champion for women’s health”.

CEO Athena Lamnisos told the BBC the charity is “deeply shocked to hear the news that our very dear friend and her husband Jonathan, are among those missing".

She described Mrs Bloomer as a "brilliant champion for women's health".

"Our thoughts are with Judy and Jonathan’s family, as well as all those who are still waiting for news after this tragic event,” she added.

Chris Morvillo

Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at Clifford Chance who represented Mr Lynch in his fraud trial, is also among the missing.

According to the company’s website Mr Morvillo previously worked as an Assistant US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

He also assisted in the criminal investigation arising out of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Neda Morvillo

Mr Morvillo’s wife is also reported to be missing.

In a post on LinkedIn following Mr Lunch’s win in his legal trial, Mr Morvillo thanked his colleagues and his family for their support.

At the end of his post, he said: "And, finally, a huge thank you to my patient and incredible wife, Neda Morvillo, and my two strong, brilliant, and beautiful daughters, Sabrina Morvillo and Sophia Morvillo.

"None of this would have been possible without your love and support. I am so glad to be home. And they all lived happily ever after…."

The 57-year-old has her own luxury jewellery line run under her maiden name, Neda Nassiri, the Daily Mail reports.
