Marinakis sends 'incredible' message as Forest set up Liverpool clash

Miltiadis Marinakis hailed the Nottingham Forest players and fans after the team set up an FA Cup showdown with Liverpool.

The son of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was at the City Ground to see Steve Cooper's men come from behind to beat Championship rivals Huddersfield Town 2-1 in their fifth round tie on Monday night.

In doing so, the Reds booked a quarter-final tie at home to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side on Sunday, March 20 (6pm kick-off).

Forest, who had already knocked out Arsenal and holders Leicester City, are into the last eight of the famous competition for the first time in 26 years.

It will be the first time they have faced Liverpool since 1999.

Huddersfield took the lead at Forest through a Tom Lees header in the 13th minute.

However, Sam Surridge equalised just before the half-hour mark and Ryan Yates headed home eight minutes later to complete the turnaround.

The result brought an end to the Terriers' 18-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

After the match, Marinakis junior posted a 30-second video of the celebrations at the final whistle on Twitter.

It was accompanied by the words: "Incredible fighting spirit. Onto the next round. Let’s keep going! #NFFC"

He also took to Instagram to pay tribute to the fans, saying: "Thank you for your magnificent support this evening, Reds."

Bayern Munich 'seriously interested' in signing Forest star

Bayern Munich are said to be "seriously interested" in signing Nottingham Forest loan star Djed Spence this summer.

Spence has caught the eye during his spell at Forest this season, having joined from Championship rivals Middlesbrough for the 2021-22 season.

The full-back's form has sparked plenty of speculation about his future, with German giants Bayern reported to be closely watching his progress, along with many others

Now Sky in Germany are claiming that the reigning Bundesliga champions are considering a bid for the 21-year-old.

Indeed, comparisons have been made between Spence and Bayern star Alphonso Davies as coach Julian Nagelsmann looks to add to his squad.

The latest report states: "Spence himself believes he can make a breakthrough in Munich, so he sees Alphonso Davies as a role model, because the Canadian came to the German record champions as a nobody at the beginning of 2019 and quickly developed into an indispensable regular player.

"Further talks between Spence's management and those responsible at Bayern are planned for the end of the month. The Englishman fits the Munich profile."

The report goes on to say: "Spence has not yet made a decision about his future, but he wants to have made a decision by May at the latest.

"But Spence won't be a bargain as there is no release clause for him. In the room is a transfer fee between 10 and 15 million euros (£8.3m to £12.5m). A price Bayern once paid for a certain Davies..."

Reading handed major double injury boost for Forest clash

Reading could be handed a double fitness boost ahead of the Championship clash against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

Midfielders Alen Halilovic and Josh Laurent are expected tor return against Forest on Saturday, which comes as a big boost for the relegation-threatened side.

Halilovic has not played since the FA Cup defeat at Kidderminster Harriers back in January because of a hamstring injury while Laurent has missed the past five matches because of an ankle problem.

The Royals travel to the City Ground having won two of their last four games under new boss Paul Ince, after sacking Veljko Paunovic following a run of 12 matches in all competitions without a win.

But they have lost their last two games against Blackpool and Millwall and come into this clash just five points away from the relegation places.

Reding could be bouyed by the returning Halilovic and Laurent, however.
