Bayern Munich 'to rival' Manchester United for major transfer as Pogba 'has heart set on Madrid'

Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.

Bayern Munich is reportedly set to rival United in the transfer market with fans who have been crying out for a critical transfer. Still, while the club are concerned with incoming, Paul Pogba could have finally decided which club he is joining when his contract expires.

And finally, AC Milan has been handed a boost in their search for a defender as United have reportedly changed their stance on whether Eric Bailly can leave on loan in January.

Bayern to rival United for major transfer

German journalist Christian Falk has stated that Bayern Munich are set to try and sign Denis Zakaria as soon as possible to stop him from moving to England and joining United.

The Bild journalist posted the statement on his official Twitter account. United has been linked with a move for the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder throughout the January window. Some sources claim that the player would be available for around £5 million since his contract expires in the summer.

My view: United fans have been crying out for a midfielder since the summer window. It seemed necessary that United gained reinforcements in this area in the January window.

So far, a move has not materialised, but while Zakaria offers a cheap option, he is not an upgrade on United's current options. He would likely struggle to get a place under the next permanent manager.

Pogba finally set for Madrid move

Pogba's contract expires in the summer, and it is expected that he will leave United on a free transfer, so the question remains where next for the French midfielder.

However, the International Business Times is reporting that Pogba's next club will be Real Madrid, with whom he has been linked for many years now.

His agent Mino Raiola has consistently rumoured that the Spanish club was a potential destination for Pogba throughout his second spell at United. Still, it seems that with the midfielder finally available for free, Real are willing to pick the player up finally.

My view: Pogba is a strange case, an undoubtedly talented player whose heart seemed to be with United past the first few seasons. If it's true, United only now have him for a few months; Ralf Rangnick must hope he can get the best out of the player to help the club's push for the top four and their search for silverware.

United open to Bailly move

AC Milan are hunting for a new defender after a severe injury to Simon Kjaer, and it seems that they have set their sights on United defender Bailly.

United were initially reluctant to let the defender go, but now Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the club and Rangnick have changed their mind and are open to allowing the defender to move.

The deal would see Bailly join Milan on a six-month loan, and it would give the defender the regular football that he has been asking for on his return from the Africa Cup of Nations.

My view: If there isn't a replacement available, don't let him leave. We can't be letting squad depth go so easily if we want to make the top four. It's as simple as that.
