Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry has already delivered honest Arsenal verdict amid transfer links

Despite missing out on a top four finish last season Arsenal have made significant progress under Mikel Arteta. And the Spaniard will be keen to add to his squad this summer in order to continue their upward trajectory.

After a solitary campaign without European football, the Gunners will make a return to the continental stage next season. As such the north Londoners will need more depth to cope with the rigours of the Europa League as well as mount another top four challenge.

A number of players have been linked with a move to the Emirates as the club look to strengthen, including former Gunner Serge Gnabry. The 26-year-old enjoyed another successful campaign with Bayern Munich last time out; scoring 17 goals and notching ten assists in all competitions to help the German giants win their tenth Bundesliga title in a row.

However, despite the key role he played last season and in their successes since he joined Bayern in 2018, Gnabry is out of contract next summer. The German international has yet to agree to fresh terms which has reportedly alerted a number of clubs across Europe including former club Arsenal.

Gnabry played for the Gunners between 2012-16, making 18 appearances for the club, but he ultimately failed to establish himself as a first team regular and departed for Werder Bremen. In a 2019 interview with Pro Direct the Bayern star opened up on his north London exit, he said: "It was the hardest decision but I think it worked out well because I wanted to play. But as a club, Arsenal are top, top."

Bayern have made no secret of their desire to keep the prolific winger but as yet haven't been able to reach an agreement. Wages are believed to be the stumbling block with Gnabry reportedly wanting parity with the top earners at Allianz Arena.

The lack of resolution could open the door for Arsenal who are in need of more attacking options as they look to compete on the domestic and European fronts next season. According to The Sun Bayern would want around £33million for his services, however, it remains to be seen if the Gunners could tempt their former star back to north London without Champions League football.
