Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies wades in on Mohamed Salah and Liverpool contract row

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies has made his feelings perfectly clear on the contract standoff between Liverpool and star forward Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian superstar leads the Premier League scoring charts with 20 goals in 26 appearances this season, with another 10 assists for his team-mates.

But the 29-year-old could become one of the latest high-profile stars to run down their contracts in favour of earning a more lucrative payday after turning down the club's latest offer.

Salah’s contract expires in June 2023 but there is no agreement yet between the club and his representative, Ramy Abbas.

It is understood no talks have taken place since December, with Abbas making clear he will not come back to the negotiating table unless improved terms are received.

With just 15 months remaining on the forward’s deal, the Reds are now running the risk of losing their star player as a free agent next year – and he will be free to speak to other clubs from January.

But Klopp insists the club “cannot do much more” in talks as both parties have appeared to reach a stand-off.

It is believed that the former Roma star is one of Liverpool ’s highest earners on £200,000-a-week, but there is a general consensus he could be offered more elsewhere.

Salah has previously claimed this contract demands are not "crazy" but as things stand, no agreement can be found between the parties.

Now, Bayern star Davies has had his say on the situation as he was livestreaming for his fans when he came across the reports that talks were at a standstill.

The Canadian international said: "Mo Salah has rejected Liverpool's latest contract offer - wow!

"But he has no intention of leaving the club. So, Mo Salah wants to stay but has rejected the last offer. Give the guy his money, man."

After Liverpool’s two-goal victory at Brighton on Saturday, Reds boss Klopp said : “The Mo question, nothing new happened, everything is fine, Mo is giving absolutely everything to the club.

“I understand these questions about contracts, but the club is in talks with all the agents and all the people and that is how it should be.”

Then, he had said: “Mo definitely expects this club to be ambitious, we were in the last few years and we are. Of course we cannot do much more (in talks), that is how it is but it is Mo’s decision.

“From my point of view, it is exactly like it should be at this time. Nothing happened further, no signing, no rejections. We just have to wait, it is completely fine.”

As things stand, there is no fresh update on Salah’s situation with his future increasingly unclear beyond the end of next season.
