Bayern Munich respond to Serge Gnabry's 'desire' to leave in transfer window

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has said he "hopes" Serge Gnabry stays at the Allianz Arena amid suggestions the German international is looking to leave.

Gnabry is out of contract in 2023, and it has been suggested that his chances of extending the deal are 50:50. The former Arsenal man has been linked with a return to north London, and his reported desire to play as a central striker could see him leave the Bundesliga champions.

The 26-year-old has won the German title in each of his four full seasons with the Bavarian side, having joined from Werder Bremen in 2017 and spent a season on loan at Hoffenheim before breaking into the Bayern first team. The fourth title may end up being his last, though, with uncertainty over his next move.

"He is a player that we value, that the fans love, that we love in the club," Salihamidzic told Sky90. "I hope that he stay here."

Gnabry isn't the only senior forward out of contract in 2023, with Robert Lewandowski's deal due to end at the same time. However, Bayern have no plans to part ways with the Poland international as he closes in on another 50-goal season.

"He has a contract until 2023. We'll have talks now and see how they develop. Then we'll see what happens after that," the director said of his team's top scorer.

Gnabry's 13 goals in the Bundesliga this season represents his best return in the competition. The forward was on target over the weekend as Bayern recorded a 3-1 victory over nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund to clinch the title.

Arsenal, meanwhile, face plenty of uncertainty when it comes to their own attacking options next season. Alexandre Lacazette has admitted to holding talks with other clubs as he nears the end of his current contract, while Eddie Nketiah also has just a couple of months left on his current deal.

The Gunners are said to be eyeing up two "marquee" signings in the coming transfer window, with technical director Edu shedding light on the situation when speaking to ESPN Brasil. "A lot of things have to be put in place and that takes time, so I am expecting a busy summer," the Brazilian said.

One of the players linked with a switch is Gabriel Jesus, though the Manchester City forward refused to be drawn on transfer speculation after scoring his first Premier League hat-trick over the weekend. And, with Gnabry still appearing to have a fondness for his former club, could he end up being the second.
