Thomas Muller has conceded if he had to be a supporter of Liverpool or Manchester City, he would choose the Reds.
The Bayern Munich star has spent his entire career with the German giants, making 626 appearances and winning a host of trophies, including two Champions Leagues. He has experienced the atmosphere of the Allianz Arena on a regular basis, as well as several of Europe's other great stadiums.
Muller has played at the Etihad on Champions League nights, but missed his team's trip there in 2019. Current City boss Pep Guardiola worked with the German for three years whilst in charge at Bayern, but the versatile forward admits he would rather be a fan on Merseyside than in Manchester.
He told ESPN : "I love City, but when I want to be a supporter maybe I want to be in the stands of Liverpool at Anfield Road." Liverpool's stadium is renowned for its atmosphere, especially on European nights, which has been a driving factor over the years.
Muller has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League. Manchester United retained an interest for several years, especially when Louis van Gaal, who previously worked with Muller, was at the helm. The player said previously: “Bayern clearly rejected the whole thing - despite this insane offer from United.”
On the other side of Manchester Guardiola is continuing to rack up the trophies. Those on the blue half are eyeing a hat-trick of Premier League triumphs and the Catalan genius previously imparted his wisdom onto Muller whilst in charge at the Allianz.

The German has said on his methods: “I don't know the situation right now in City, but in our times, Pep Guardiola said ‘I bring you to the box and after that you have to show me your talent and your feeling’, so he plans and prepares everything, yeah, maybe 20 metres in front of the goal. We had players like Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, good strikers, always good strikers, Mario Gomez, or Mario Mandzukic, Mario Gotze always this time, myself, Douglas Costa – he would say ‘I bring you to this line, and then you have to do the rest of the job’. I don’t know how it is right now [with City].”
During their three years together Muller and Guardiola won seven trophies, although the Champions League was not captured. In that period Muller scored 79 times, with the 2015/16 campaign still his most prolific year to date.
