Bayern Munich explain Nottingham Forest transfer and make Leeds United comment

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has laid out the reasons behind Omar Richards's summer move to Nottingham Forest.

Left-back Richards joined Forest for a fee of £8.5 million back in July, one of three Bayern development players to move to the Premier League. Marc Roca signed for Leeds United, while Chris Richards make the switch to Crystal Palace.

Salihamidzic explained that Bayern had to move players on this summer for financial reasons following the pandemic restrictions, with clubs in Germany - like most countries around the world - having to play in front of empty stadiums.

That financial situation is something Forest used to their advantage, signing Richards for a relatively low fee in today's transfer market. Big clubs in similar situations could be a market for Forest to continue shopping in as they look to survive and then establish themselves in the Premier League.

"We didn't pretend not to have any money, it was the truth," Salihamidzic told The Times of their situation. "Our [annual] income was down €120 million [£103 million] because of an empty Allianz Arena.

"We tried to get in players who didn't pose a financial risk but made it possible to generate sales afterwards. A player like Marc Roca might not have made it but he's nevertheless a good player who's a starter for Leeds United [now]."
