Bayern Munich could derail Newcastle United's summer transfer plan

Corentin Tolisso is one of the midfielders who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in the last few months.

The France international is currently a Bayern Munich player but his future is up in the air with his contract due to expire in June.

If they are able to sign him, the Magpies will be able to strengthen their midfield options while not spending anything terms of transfer fees.

Of course, Tolisso’s wage demands would make him one of the highest earners at the club, but he would be a cheaper alternative to some of the other names being linked with Newcastle.

Although, whether he will be available remains to be seen as Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in keeping hold of the 27-year-old. Last week, the club’s CEO and former goalkeeper, Oliver Kahn, confirmed that the Bundesliga champions have opened talks over a new deal for Tolisso as he addressed the contract situations of several players.

He told Sky in Germany: “We are in talks. But it always takes two to make it fit in the end.”

Tolisso might not be interested in agreeing a new contract with Bayern after he has struggled for regular game time at the Allianz Arena. However, that won’t necessarily make it easy for Newcastle to agree a deal as several other teams have been credited with interest.

The World Cup winner has been linked with clubs around Europe and Tottenham are said to be one of the other Premier League sides monitoring his situation. The January signing of Bruno Guimaraes might also make it a deal that the Magpies are not as keen on as they once were but Tolisso is certainly the profile of player that the new owners are looking to sign in the summer.
