Bayern Munich chief makes "let's see what happens" Harry Kane transfer comment

Bayern Munich chief executive Oliver Kahn has not ruled out the possibility of signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane this summer as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona have agreed a deal for Robert Lewandowski from Bayern after an eight-year spell at the Allianz Arena with a deal worth €45million (£38.3m).

Spurs star and England captain Kane has been heavily linked with an exit in recent years, primarily to Manchester City, who signed a new striker this summer when completing the £51.2million acquisition of Erling Haaland from Dortmund. Bayern have also been linked with Kane despite the arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

Speaking about Kane, Kahn has ruled out the prospect of Bayern making a move for the forward this summer but has not ruled out the possibility of signing him in the future.

"He is under contract at Tottenham," he told Bild. "Sure, he is an absolute top striker, but that's all a dream of the future. So let's see what happens."

Reports in the Evening Standard claim that Kane is open to signing a new contract this summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having spent the duration of his professional career with Spurs.

Last season, Kane scored 27 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions to help Spurs secure a fourth-place finish and return to the group stages of the Champions League after a three-year absence.

Earlier this year, Kane took his tally of goals for England to 50 from 73 caps, making him the country's second-highest all-time scorer behind Wayne Rooney (53).

Lewandowski is set to leave Bayern after eight years where he scored 344 goals from 375 appearances in all competitions, netting 238 times in 253 Bundesliga appearances for Julian Nagelsmann's side.
