Bayern Munich and Chelsea were both right about Thomas Tuchel and big Todd Boehly call proves it

Todd Boehly's Chelsea choice to sack Thomas Tuchel has been questioned as Julian Nagelsmann is set to be replaced as Bayern Munich boss by the German coach. Tuchel only left Stamford Bridge in September and has been out of work since but the Bundesliga giants have acted quickly to get the 2021 Champions League winner back into a job.

With Graham Potter struggling to make a name for himself, the ease at which Tuchel has now found elite suitors across the continent has only backed up what many fans have thought all along. That Boehly was premature when he chose to part ways with the SW6 favourite following the 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb.

After Tuchel's 100th game in charge the new ownership grouped acted not just out of reaction to the defeat but in tandem with a failing relationship stemming from the summer preparations. Potter, who takes a more holistic approach to management, was the immediate choice.

With less than inspiring results so far and widescale struggles for the former Brighton man, some fans are not only still feeling upset that Tuchel was ditched, but also that Nagelsmann - one of the brightest coaches in Europe - is unlikely to be appointed at Stamford Bridge anytime soon.

The 35-year-old started his professional coaching career aged just 27 when he took over at Hoffenheim. Since then his stature has only grown with success at RB Leipzig before landing the Bayern job in 2021. As a young coach with progressive methods and passionate for player development, he does fit the mould for what Chelsea want. They are firmly standing by Potter, at least for now.

The Champions League quarter-final represents Chelsea's season over two legs. If it goes well then the season goes on, if it doesn't then Potter will be left stewing over a mid-table league finish and little will be able to stop the fan backlash that will likely follow.

This has all come to shine poorly on Boehly-Clearlake and the early decision-making at the club. Potter was made the most expensive manager in the world and handed a long-term deal less than eight months ago. Now, serious questions over his future remain despite a brief upturn in form.

Having spent £21.5m on the 47-year-old, a fact pointed out deliberately by the south coast side in their annual accounts, Boehly has invested not only money but trust in Potter. He banked on Potter becoming the brand for the 'new Chelsea.' The same can be said for Nagelsmann.

The hipster choice at Bayern, the well-dressed, trendy coach with a track record of success and improvement in Germany. It is reported that he also cost more than £20m to lure away from Leipzig. Players' costs keep rising and now coaches are being treated in a similar vein. They are the public-facing people of a football club.

Sacking Nagelsmann is now going to cost Bayern again. It could be upwards of £25m too with salary of around £8m per year and still another three years on his contract, the one being cut short after just over 18 months in charge. This could mean that more than £50m is being spent to appoint and sack a manager, staggering amounts and a warning for Boehly and Co that it won't just be their wallets that take a hit but also their pride and face.
