Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann teases Harry Kane transfer as 'approach' made

Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann has revealed that he would love to take Harry Kane to the Bundesliga.

Nagelsmann admitted that an imminent move for the Tottenham captain appears impossible given the money it would take to convince the London club to sell. But Kane will have just one year left on his contract next season - and the Bayern boss gave a tantalising hint that they will test Spurs’ resolve at some stage.

Nagelsmann said: “Kane is very expensive - and that’s the problem. But he’s a brilliant player, one of two or three who can play as a centre forward. In the last couple of years he’s been more of a No 10. But Kane is very strong, brilliant with head and both feet. He could score a lot in the Bundesliga.

“I don’t know the price, but it’s really tough for Bayern Munich - but we’ll see what happens in the future.”

Bayern executive Oliver Kahn revealed that Kane would be the club’s dream signing and Germany paper BILD has claimed that Bayern have already spoken to Kane's representatives. The news outlet also says that the England skipper's camp didn't give a firm 'no' over a potential switch to Germany, opening up the possibility of a future move.

The Bundesliga champions have lost talismanic striker Robert Lewandowski to Barcelona this summer. The 33-year-old scored a staggering 344 goals in 375 appearances in his eight-year stint and will be a hard, perhaps impossible, act to follow.

Will Kane spend his whole career at Spurs? Let us know in the comments

Although Bayern have signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool, they will go into the new season without a recognised number nine.

Nagelsmann was speaking ahead of Bayern’s pre-season friendly clash with Manchester City at the legendary Lambeau Field - home of NFL’s Green Bay Packers. Mane is missing after being granted permission to travel to Morocco to collect the African Footballer of the Year award.

The Senegalese forward has returned to Munich to step up his fitness ahead of the new season. Nagelsmann said: “First of all, the idea was that Mane could play some minutes. But the journey is too long and training too exhausting, so I decided for him to not come back.

“If he had played against City and got injured people would have called me crazy. I had to make the decision for him to go to Munich – to train, then have days off and start again on Monday.”

Last summer there was plenty of uncertainty around Kane's future at Tottenham, following quotes that came out in a chat with Gary Neville on Skybet's The Overlap show. Kane said at the time: “I don’t want to come to the end of my career and have regrets. I want to be the best I can be.

"I’ve never said I’d stay at Spurs for the rest of my career. I’d never said I’d leave Spurs. It’s at a stage where people might say ‘oh he’s desperate for trophies’. I still feel like I’ve got another career to play. I’ve still got seven or eight years of what I’ve had so far. I’m not rushing anything. I’m not desperate to do anything. I want to be the best version of me."

Despite being linked with a move away, he eventually stayed put and after Antonio Conte's appointment he played a huge role in helping the side qualify for the Champions League.
