Bayer Leverkusen look set to win the race to take Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi on loan for the season.

A deal is not yet complete but there is confidence from all parties that it will get done.

A host of clubs were interested, including from the Premier League with Newcastle and Southampton and Bayer’s Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.

But, after careful consideration, Hudson-Odoi has chosen to spend the season in Leverkusen.

Hudson-Odoi was keen for more regular football this season and Chelsea have sanctioned his loan exit after ruling out a permanent move.

New Blues co-owner Todd Boehly personally pleaded with Hudson-Odoi to only consider a temporary move away.

The 21-year-old still has three years still to run on his contract, worth is reportedly worth more than £100,000 a week.

Hudson-Odoi managed just 15 Premier League games last season and is yet to play a minute during the current campaign.

The move to the Bundesliga comes two years after Bayern Munich failed with multiple approached to sign the youngster, which then-manager Frank Lampard rejected.
