Battersea Bridge shut for emergency repairs after hydraulic fuel spillage

Battersea Bridge was closed for emergency repairs on Thursday morning after a spillage overnight.

The major river crossing between West and South London is shut in both directions for emergency repairs after a hydraulic fuel spill on Wednesday night.

Alongside a collision in the Latchmere area, the closure has caused significant delays.

Wandsworth Police said: “Due to a road traffic incident in the Latchmere area and the current closure of Battersea Bridge, due to emergency repairs, please be advised that traffic in the area may cause delays to your journey.”

Traffic is also being affected by the ongoing closures of Hammersmith and Wandsworth bridges.

TfL is advising motorists to seek alternative routes while repairs are carried out.

In a notice, it said: “Expect delays on diversion. Currently northbound traffic at Albert Bridge Road is suffering tailbacks to Battersea Park Road, while Queenstown Road is also suffering from northbound delays.

“Eastbound traffic on Parkgate Road Is very slow moving and currently queuing back along Westbridge Road.

“Chelsea Embankment and Battersea Park Road are suffering delays both westbound and eastbound.”
