Batgirl star Leslie Grace thanks fans for 'love and belief' after movie is canned

Batgirl actress Leslie Grace has spoken out after it was confirmed that the $70 million movie had been scrapped due to poor test screenings. Taking to Instagram, Grace told fans she's "proud of the love, hard work and intention" that the cast and crew put into filming.

The entire big-budget blockbuster was shot in Glasgow, and it saw several city centre streets closed and traffic rerouted late 2021 and carried on through January.

She added: "Querida Familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie 'Batgirl', I am proud of the love, hard work and intention of all our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process.

"To every Batgirl fan - THANK YOU for the and belief, allowing me to take the cape and become, as Babs once said best, "my own damn her! #Batgirl for life!"

Glasgow City Council insisted the decision to scrap the Batgirl movie was purely a corporate matter for studio executives. It handed £150,000 of public cash to creators as an incentive to film in the area.

Directors say they're "saddened and shocked" by the announcement. They said that the movie was far from finished and wished that fans around the world could have been give the opportunity to have seen the finished production.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson said: "The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership's strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max.

"Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance.

"We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future."
