Batgirl movie filmed in Glasgow reportedly shelved following poor test screening

Glasgow was transformed to look like Gotham City

THE upcoming Batgirl movie, the entirety of which was filmed in Glasgow, has reportedly been shelved by Warner Bros.

According to The New York Post, the movie has been sidelined following poor test screening results.

The DC film, which was set to star Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser, J.K. Simmons and Leslie Grace is thought to have cost around £57.6 million.

The superhero blockbuster was set for a 2022 release on the HBO Max streaming service.

Glasgow City Council was set to give the company £150,000 – 20 times more than it has given to any other production in recent years – to make the movie in the city, but this has not yet been paid, council leader Susan Aitken said.

Other productions have been capped at £7500, a freedom of information request revealed earlier this year.

Filming saw Glasgow transformed into iconic comic-book setting Gotham City for the multi-million-pound production.

Set designers were seen setting up a Christmas market in the Trongate area of the city with festive decorations hung up in shop windows.

Many of the cast and crew, including Grace and Ethan Kai as well as directors Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi were pictured in Glasgow.

The movie was set to focus on Barbara Gordon, played by Grace, the daughter of Gotham’s police commissioner Jim Gordon.
