Basford United to honour dedicated fan and popular football blogger after his death

Basford United have confirmed that their Southern League Fixture against Alvechurch on Saturday will be dedicated to supporter Malcolm Storer, who sadly passed away earlier this month after a short illness.

“Malc”, as he was known to his friends, was a season ticket holder at Greenwich Avenue, but more renowned for his “ontheroad” blog in the local footballing and groundhopping community, as well as his charitable fundraising.

Dignitaries will lay a wreath of remembrance prior to a minute’s silence ahead of kick-off and a book of condolence will be set up in the clubhouse for attendees to sign and share their memories of Malcolm.

Donations can also be made, both on the turnstile and around the ground, to Nottingham Hospitals Charity and their Robin Centre, the “ontheroad” chosen charity for the 2022-23 season.

The centre – located in the grounds of the City Hospital – provides an environment suitable for bereaved families following the loss of a pregnancy, baby, or child.

All donations will go towards ensuring that Nottingham Hospitals Charity can continue to provide a compassionate environment for patients and families when they need it most, and the club have confirmed it will match the total amount raised.

The game kicks off at 3pm and everyone associated with Basford hope as many as possible can join them, Malcolm’s family and friends to pay their respects.
