Man becomes biggest winner in sports gambling history after scooping £65million

Here’s one baseball fan who knows how to strike a winner…

Jim McIngvale, 71, scooped £65million after betting on his team to win the coveted World Series in America.

It makes him the biggest winner in sports gambling history.

The mattress and furniture magnate placed £8.7million in bets on the Houston Astros landing the title on Saturday night.

And he pitched things just right as the Astros beat Philadelphia Phillies.

Jim, dubbed “Mattress Mick”, first bet £3.5million earlier this year on his local Texan team winning the title, at odds of 10-1.

In July, he placed another four wagers worth a total of £5.2million.

All the bets were placed outside his home state, where gambling on the outcome of certain sporting events is illegal.

While £8.7million seems an awful lot to be betting, it should be pointed out Jim is worth an estimated £261million.

Customers of his mattress business are also celebrating his windfall.

He promised anyone who spent £2,600 or more a refund, while keeping their mattress, if the Astros won.
