Baseball bat thugs chase down man in motor before setting upon him in "vicious assault"

A gang of thugs armed with baseball bats set upon a 45-year-old man in a “vicious assault” in Paisley.

Police say the man was being chased by the assailants, who were driving a white motor vehicle in Whitesbridge Avenue, Ferguslie around 1.20pm on Saturday, October 29.

They eventually caught up with the man and it is alleged that four men emerged from the vehicle to hunt down their victim on foot.

It is said they then attacked him before returning to the car and driving off in an unknown direction.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he is receiving treatment.

The suspects are described as follows; the first is white, in his early 40s and of stocky build with a heavy stubble and short brown hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit top with white writing on the chest and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second suspect is described as white and wearing a grey puffer style jacket zipped to the top with the hood up.

The third suspect is white, approximately 5ft 11in tall and with a slim build. He was wearing a full black tracksuit with the hood up.

Police say that there is no information on the fourth suspect at this time.

In the search for clues, officers are checking CCTV footage from in and around the area as they try and uncover further information about the suspects and the vehicle involved.

Detective Constable James Campbell from Paisley CID said: “While enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this attack, we believe it to be targeted.

“It was a vicious assault that happened in the middle of the day, weapons were used and the man has been badly injured.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have seen the attack take place, who may have doorbell or dash-cam footage capturing the incident, or who has any information that will assist the investigation to come forward.

“Information can be passed to police via 101. Please quote reference number 1791 of Saturday, 29 October 2022 when calling. Alternatively, details can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The incident comes just three days after another car chase, this time in Johnstone, ended with vehicles smashing into a children's playground and another "serious assault".
