Children transported to hospital after four-vehicle crash on Barton Highway

Emergency services are on the scene.

The Barton Highway near Spring Range Road, Wallaroo has reopned after a four-vehicle crash.

Both lanes were closed to traffic for much of the day, until the road reopened about 9pm.

Earlier, motorists were being diverted back along small and dirt roads not suitable for trucks or heavy vehicles. NSW Police urged heavy vehicles to find an alternate route.

According to NSW Ambulance, seven people were involved in the crash, including two children who have escaped serious injury.

The children were taken to Canberra Hospital in a stable condition. A spokesperson said one child has suffered a hip injury, while the other had bitten their tongue.

In addition, an adult woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition, and another person was transported by helicopter. The condition of the second adult was unclear.

NSW Ambulance responded to the crash about 10.30am on Wednesday, with four ambulance vehicles and a rescue helicopter.
