Following the issuance of tsunami warnings for the San Francisco area in the aftermath of an earthquake, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) faced significant service disruptions. The disruptions included the cancellation of service along its underwater rail line, the Transbay Tube.
A service alert from BART informed commuters about the major delay system-wide in all directions and the suspension of Transbay Tube service to and from San Francisco due to the earthquake report. Commuters were advised to seek alternate means of transportation during this period.
After the tsunami warning was lifted, BART resumed its services. However, riders were cautioned to expect approximately a 20-minute delay as the transportation system worked on recovering from the disruptions caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami warning.
BART plays a crucial role in connecting the San Francisco Peninsula to the East and South Bay regions. On an average weekday, around 150,000 riders rely on BART services. The exact number of individuals impacted by the delays resulting from the earthquake-related disruptions remains unclear.
