Barry Robson hopes on-form Duk has big interest come the summer – because it means he’ll have kept up his red-hot form and helped fire Aberdeen into Europe.
The Cape Verde international was at the double at the weekend to sink Kilmarnock and to blast Aberdeen back into third place. The striker, already linked with top Serie A sides, has taken his tally to an impressive 17 for the season. Delighted Aberdeen gaffer Robson admitted: “Long may it continue.
“Any player in the team, if you perform and win matches – if you’re a keeper it’s clean sheets, a midfielder it’s playing well or scoring as a striker, people take notice. f you’re doing your job, no matter what position you’re playing, then the more you do it the more people will look at you. But we are not thinking about that right now, he’s a humble kid who wants to do well and we have to keep feeding him.”
Duk has six goals in seven games since Robson took over the Pittodrie helm and his new gaffer reckons the current set-up is getting the best out of the 23-year-old.
He said: “It suits Duk, the way we play. He’s on a good run of form, he’s got great pace and is enjoying his football. We just need to keep him up to speed with it and keep him going.
“He’s going to help us win games because he’s a good, humble kid who wants to do well and wants to learn.”
The summer signing from Benfica is determined not to rest on his laurels and wants more goals and glory in red and white.
Duk said on Red TV: “Saturday was a big win and I’m happy to help the team with two goals but the most important thing was getting the victory.
“Now we are third in the league so we are happy but we have to work hard and keep going. We are having a good moment but we need to keep winning. It’s football, winning is what it is all about.
"The team is together, it is strong and now we need to keep going. We had another clean sheet and we know if we keep doing that we will win games easily because we always believe we will score goals.
“The defenders have been good but we are a team, we get clean sheets because we play together. Everyone works together and that is our strength. We’re doing well but we want more. I want to win more games and to score more goals.”
