Barry Keoghan's proud family to have party at home as they cheer him on at Oscars ceremony

Barry Keoghan’s family will hold an awards party at their home tonight as he bids for Oscar glory.

His cousin Gemma Geoghegan has told of their pride disclosing how Barry was fostered by his aunt Lorraine Keoghan when he was eight. She stepped in to care for the Marvel actor, 30, and his brother as their mother Deborah struggled with addiction issues.

Gemma told the Irish Independent: “There’s been a lot of misconceptions about that time. My mum reared him and his brother Eric.

She said: "Before we fostered him, there were multiple foster homes alright - there were 15 or 16 before we got him.

“Even at that we were about a year trying to foster him, going for visits and being assessed and things like that. He was about eight when he came to live with us. He did his communion in our house.”

Gemma said the family will gather tonight in Summerhill, Dublin to watch the event. In 2011, Barry began his acting career and he studied at The Factory in Dublin and in 2013 he had his break-through role in the RTE drama Love/Hate where he played the "infamous cat killer" Wayne.

He starred as teenage terror Wayne for several episodes, impressing viewers at home before the character was killed off in the season four finale. Since his breakthrough in Love/Hate, Barry has gone on to star opposite fellow Dublin actor Colin Farrell in the 2017 film Killing of a Sacred Deer, war epic Dunkirk, Marvels' superhero flick Eternals in 2021 and The Batman.

In 2022, he received acclaim for his role as the sensitive Dominic Kearney in The Banshees of Inisherin opposite fellow Dublin stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.
