Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has told new Light Blues boss Mick Beale that he needs to develop an incredibly attacking style of play if he is to succeed at Ibrox - similar to the blueprint of Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.
Celtic have been in incredible form since Postecoglou took over, winning the Scottish Premiership and League Cup double in his first season as Hoops boss, and they look set to win at least another major trophy this season given their incredible nine-point lead heading into the World Cup break.
With Rangers heading on a downward trajectory this season which saw the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst at the start of the tournament in Qatar, Beale was swiftly appointed manager by ending a nine-month hiatus from the club - after he followed Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa before making his mark in management at Championship side Queens Park Rangers. But with a seismic mountain to climb in the title race, Ferguson has told the Englishman that he cannot afford to mess around, with the gap to their bitter rivals already huge - insisting that Beale should look to copy the playing style of Postecoglou if Rangers are to hoist themselves back into contention.
"Do I see Rangers clawing back the nine points? Only if Celtic hit a serious brick wall. They've got to win that [game against Hibs]. I'm sure Michael Beale will want that as well," Ferguson told GoRadio.
"He says that he wants a real attack-minded team. That's what the Rangers fans expect - Rangers taking the game to teams. Really expansive, full-back's high and wide, numbers get into the box, and the midfield dominating the game. I'm looking forward to next Thursday night to see how Michael Beale sets his team up and how Rangers go about the job.
"He [Postecoglou] has got a very attack-minded style of football and I'll be honest with you, it is good to watch. High-energy, they press high up the pitch, they know their roles and responsibilities within the team.
"Rangers have got a tough job to try and claw that nine points back. But looking ahead to next Thursday, I'm looking forward to seeing what style of play and what shape Rangers are going to bring to the game."
