Barry Ferguson hopes Rangers can go one further than his crop of stars did in 2008 by WINNING the Europa League.
Ferguson captained the Light Blues in the Manchester final when they lost to Zenit.
This season Gio van Bronckhorst's side have dispatched of Borussia Dortmund, Red Star and Braga to face RB Leipzig in the semis.
But Fergie hopes his old club see off the Germans and then do the business in Seville to shock Europe.
When asked if they could go one step further than his team, he told talkSPORT: “Without a doubt. I’ve got to be honest, with the performance against Dortmund - especially away from home - and watching them progress against Red Star and Braga, I really do believe they have got the capabilities of getting to the final.
“Leipzig will be a tough one, they’re a really good team. But Rangers have the players to go and do the business and get to the final.
“You’ve got to be respectful because obviously Leipzig are the fourth best team in Germany behind Bayern Munich, Dortmund and Leverkusen.
“I watched them a couple of weeks ago when they went to Leverkusen and won 1-0. I was impressed. They’ve got good players but listen, Rangers do as well.
“It would be great to come back with a win but even a draw or similar to the Braga game and come back home with a 1-0 defeat then Ibrox on European nights where the atmosphere is electric, they’ve got every chance of going through.
“The mindset of Giovanni and the boys will be to make sure they go over there and come back with at least a positive result.
“I keep saying to many people, European nights under the floodlights at Ibrox is just a totally different atmosphere. I’ve seen big teams come and big players come and be in awe of the atmosphere.
“The most important thing is Rangers get a positive result tonight and I firmly believe they will. I’ve got a funny feeling this could be the season this group of Rangers players.
“In the league it was disappointing sitting six points behind Celtic but I’ve got a funny feeling they can go one better than I did and the group of players I played with.
“What an achievement it was getting to the final but it’s still disappointing that you don’t win it. This group of players can go one better.
“Everyone says it was a brilliant achievement to get there but when you get to finals you want to win them. There’s nothing worse.
“Luckily domestically every final I played in I won, even down in England at Birmingham. So the UEFA Cup Final was a big disappointment.
If Rangers get a result I’ll be booking my ticket to go to Seville because I have a good feeling it. I want to go there and be part of it and support them.
“I’d love nothing better than them to go one better than I did but they have to get through a difficult tie against Leipzig.”
