Barry Ferguson swerves Michael Beale Scottish Cup 'pressure' as Rangers hero talks key summer plan

Barry Ferguson says the real pressure Michael Beale faces at Rangers is in the summer, not in winning the Scottish Cup.

The Ibrox boss' chances of success have been weighed up in some quarters including Rangers hero Mark Hateley who has labelled retaining the domestic trophy as 'massive' for the Englishman. Beale trails rival Ange Postecoglou by nine points in the league despite being unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership and will face Celtic again in the last four of the cup.

It was disappointment in the Viaplay Cup final for Beale but former Light Blues captain Ferguson isn't putting too much weight on the Englishman's shoulders this season. However, he insists that the summer transfer window is when the real 'pressure' will kick in as he needs to recruit effectively.

He told Go Radio: "Of course he would feel a bit of pressure but I don't think it would involve him losing his job [losing cup].

"He knows how important it is to try and retain that Scottish Cup outwith the semi-final. They've got two big league games [against Celtic] and played really well in the last one. Celtic found a way to get an equaliser, as they do.

"There's always pressure and Beale knows that. The pressure is in the summer for me - recruitment wise - and making sure that he keeps the ones he wants and that are good enough to go on the journey with him.

"But also to bring in players who can go and try and get Rangers trophies."
