Barry Ferguson suggests Rangers transfer as stopper told to leave Ibrox and fulfil 'top' potential

Robby McCrorie has been told that leaving Rangers on loan again may be the best thing for his future prospects.

The goalkeeper has spent four loan spells away from the Ibrox club and is third choice behind veteran stoppers Jon McLaughlin and Allan McGregor, with competitive involvement very limited. Despite this, Scotland head coach Steve Clarke has called him up for the national team's UEFA Nations League fixtures this week alongside Hearts' Craig Gordon and Motherwell's Liam Kelly.

Rangers legend and former captain Barry Ferguson reckons the goalkeeper - who has spent time at Berwick Rangers, Queen of the South, Greenock Morton and Livingston - has all the potential to become number one for both his current club and country. But that will only be fulfilled if he is playing regular football and that doesn't look likely under current boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, so a loan move could be a perfect solution.

Ferguson told Go Radio: "He needs to go and play. I think he has the potential to be a Rangers number one in the future, and Scotland.

"But he has to go and get that experience. He's only played two first team games for Rangers so he can to go out and play.

"If he does that, he'll improve, as I think he has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper. If that means leaving a big club for six months, 12 months, go and get the experience."
