Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed strong confidence in interim manager Barry Ferguson’s leadership, highlighting the clear direction the new boss is bringing to the team.
With the Light Blues coming off a remarkable Europa League victory against Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce, the squad is fully behind Ferguson as they head into a crucial week in their campaign.
Dessers, who netted a key goal in the Round of 16 clash, is optimistic about the team’s position ahead of Thursday’s return leg at Ibrox, where they are looking to secure a quarter-final spot.
The hosts hold a decent advantage following a 3-1 win in Turkey, with Vaclav Cerny’s double and Dessers’ strike putting them in control.
“It’s a nice thing to see how much the fans love him and how much he loves the fans after the games,” Dessers told Sky Sports, speaking about Ferguson’s connection with the supporters.
“He knows the club inside and out and the feelings of the fans. He tries to bring that to us as well. I think the approach is clear for the next months. He has a clear ID and I think we are all fully behind him, support him and try to help. He tries to help us and we try to help him on the pitch.”

This week also sees Rangers face fierce rivals Celtic in a highly anticipated Old Firm derby at Parkhead on Sunday.
With Celtic currently sitting 16 points clear in the Scottish Premiership, the match is vital for Rangers’ hopes of not falling further adrift of their city rivals.
In related news, Dessers has been performing at a high level for Rangers but was notably omitted from the latest Nigeria international squad despite his impressive club form.
The snub has raised eyebrows, with many fans questioning how the striker, who has been particularly prolific since the turn of the year, was overlooked for the upcoming World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
(Image: Rob Casey - SNS Group) Asked whether he’s targeting the 30-goal mark, having already netted 22 this season, Dessers refused to go public with his targets.
"It is like you say, It is important to stay level. Don't go down in the bad periods and don't let it get to your head in the good periods,” he stated.
"For me personally at this point I am feeling good and confident. Obviously I scored a few goals in the last games, but I want more and I think it is good to be on 22 at this stage of the season.
“That is a very good feeling but I want more. Hopefully I can help the team get more goals and important ones.
“That is a crazy number. I would prefer to talk about quarter-finals and semi-finals and those things than about 30 goals. Obviously, hopefully I am going to score a few more goals."
