Barry Ferguson reveals 'heated' Rangers sacking chats as van Bronckhorst told how to win fans back

Barry Ferguson says Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has five games to turn the club's season around.

A 3-0 defeat to Napoli midweek added insult to injury on a Champions League campaign that has had them lose five straight games against Ajax, Liverpool and the Italian by an aggregate score of 19-1. Now the Ibrox club host Aberdeen in a huge match this Saturday, as they trail Celtic by four points in the Premiership title race after a 1-1 draw last weekend versus Livingston.

Former captain Ferguson has heard the chants for his former teammate to depart Rangers personally but insists that the last five games are a chance for his team to show they are up for the fight. He wrote in his Daily Record column: I’m aware of the clamour growing for Gio’s head and I understand why the fans are unhappy.

"Let’s just say I’ve been involved in a few heated conversations with some pals who believe his time should be up already. But I’m not in that camp. In my view, he has five games now to turn this season around ahead of the World Cup.

"And the most important of them all comes when Jim Goodwin’s team arrive in town. For once, I’m not sure a win will be enough to get the supporters back onside.

"No, Gio needs something bigger and better than just another grind. He needs to see a real full-blooded, high tempo, passion-fuelled 90-minute long performance from his players.

"I do know the time has come for Rangers to show they are in it together and up for the fight. They have five games now to prove it before it’s too late."
