Barry Ferguson reveals Celtic ban fight as Alloa boss unwilling to take Mouhamed Niang appeal lying down

Defiant Barry Ferguson has confirmed Alloa will look to appeal any retrospective ban dished out to Mouhamed Niang for his challenge on Yosuke Ideguchi.

The on-loan Partick Thistle man caught the Celtic midfielder with a strong challenge in the Scottish Cup tie on Saturday night that initially merited only a booking from whistler Don Robertson.

It ended Ideguchi' s game early and Parkhead boss Postecoglou was left fuming with the tackle, as was striker Giorgos Giakoumakis

Niang is up in front of an SFA panel on Thursday and Record Sport revealed on Tuesday that they are expected to upgrade it from a yellow to a red.

However boss Ferguson has defended Niang and the rest of his players and confirmed on Go Radio that he will appeal any retrospective punishment.

He said: "One thing I will say is we will appeal the decision."

And he went on as he launched an impassioned defence of his player.

He added: "I'm not saying he didn't connect with Guchi. He did, but if you watch it closely, he was focused on winning the ball.

"But unfortunately the follow through connected with his ankle.

"It looked a lot worse slowed down. I feel for him, I've been in contact with him since Saturday. He's been getting stick on social media but I've got to support him.

"He's been down in the dumps. He's only just turned 22 and he's here on loan from Partick Thistle.

"It was a great opportunity and the players went out to compete but not hurt anyone."
