Barry Ferguson requires a Rangers wobble because his new hero needs a Superman suit not brown brogues – Hotline

Josip Juranovic World Cup exploits came to an end at the semi final stage and there are plenty of fans who think his time at Celtic will be doing likewise - but there was the usual bickering about how much the Croatian right back will fetch in the transfer market. And events at Ibrox were also up for discussion.

Michael Emonds, Northampton, said: “A wee word to all the transfer fee experts on the Hotline, no matter how much money Celtic get for Josip Juranovic, I guarantee, they will show a massive percentage profit on the £2.5million they paid for him 18 months ago.” Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton said: “Huge congratulations to Josip Juranovic on playing in a World Cup semi final. However it was a step too far in stopping Argentina and Messi who seems to have six toes instead of five on each foot. I anticipate Celtic will receive a £20m bid shortly and look forward to his replacement Alistair Johnston hitting the ground running.”

But Chris Lowe, Yoker, disagrees: “Juranovic was badly exposed for two of the three Argentina goals and was generally poor throughout the match. In fact it was the type of performance that sees him dropped regularly domestically for Ralston. Basically his World Cup has been forgettable apart from a decent 90 mins against Brazil. £15m? Someone insert the decimal point now as that myth was blown away last night with his showing.”

Carl McCoy, Paisley, emailed with a word about Juranovic’s potential replacement: “So new signing Alistair Johnston would “go to war” for Callum McGregor. Having served two tours myself, I wish footballers would choose their words more carefully. It is an insult to those who braved the theatre of conflict.”

Moving on, Barry Ferguson’s delight at Michael Beale insisting Rangers players arrive suited and booted for home games didn’t thrill a couple of Hotliners.

Bud Hay, Dumfries, emailed: “Barry Ferguson thinks a collar and tie and a pair of brogues are going to win games. Rangers have no chance of winning the Premiership - Celtic are going to have to lose four games and Rangers win them all. So dream on Barry, the league is done.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, Fife said: “So wee Baz, Nacho Novo and Kevin Thomson are all loving everything Beale is doing at Ibrox. Baz says seeing the players with suits on again at home games will make a difference. Get a grip Baz - this went out with the Ark. One thing for certain Beale will need a superman suit if they fall further behind Celtic.

“Then you will get the ‘I told you so’ brigade saying we should never have gone for a novice manager. Then it will be another contract settlement case.”

Patrick Jardine emailed to have a go at the ITV punditry: “I wish Roy Keane had spoken up and told the two numpties Neville and Wright that they were there to comment on Croatia and Argentina not to analyse the shape and how far Kane’s backside was positioned different in the two penalties and how the England players were all heroes. They lost to the first decent team they met and who had first team players missing.”

And Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “At least Scotland know their limits. It is good England are out, the media and England are so pig headed they think they are automatically going to win it , nothing less. Also the refereeing in Qatar has made Willie Collum and our refs look world class, so self centred and so inconsistent.”

Finally, Sean Beech, Hampshire said: “Got to chuckle at all the green obsession from the Rangers fans on the Hotline. What I can’t work out though is if it’s green with nausea from watching their own team or green with envy from watching ours?”
