Rangers players 'let themselves down' during Saturday’s annihilation at the hands of Celtic, insists Barry Ferguson.
It was a tough afternoon for the Light Blues at Parkhead on Saturday. And it won't be fast forgotten. Rangers hero Ferguson admits Celtic were clearly the better team 'in all departments' but neither does he hide from the fact his former side were simply not good enough. The player turned pundit was straight to the point, admitting mistakes can happen on the park but the extensive errors on at the weekend are simply inexcusable.
In his weekly Record Sport column, the former Rangers captain insisted Ibrox boss Gio van Bronckhorst had Celtic counterpart Ange Postecoglou 'sussed' ahead of the first Old Firm meeting of the season. But things weren't to be for Rangers and his men who saw their visit to Glasgow's east end leave them disappointed. The result means the Hoops top the table by five points, something of concern to the Govan outfit this early in the campaign.
Speaking about the result on the Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson said: "I suspect that he'll [Gio van Bronckhorst] will not be a happy man. And neither he should be. The goals, it's not good enough at that level. It can happen once in a game, but you can't let it happen a second and third time. Plain and simple. Celtic were the better team.
"And they [Rangers] are going to come in for a bit of flack, no doubt about it. They've let a lot of people down and if they are professionals they'll know they've let themselves down. But there is no getting away from the fact that Celtic were stronger in all departments and it's a sore one. A sore, sore one to lose."
