Barry Ferguson predicts lowball Rangers fee for Kent and Morelos as contract 'clarity' sought

Barry Ferguson fears Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are ‘in control’ of their transfer destiny with the club lucky to earn £2million for BOTH players.

The Light Blues hero believes the pair will leave the club for nothing next summer as free agents with the Ibrox club facing a ‘fair loss’. Both Kent and Morelos have yet to sign new contracts at Rangers and the pair have come under criticism this season. Kent has been under-fire for performances and only one goal, and Morelos has got branded as unfit after he was banished from the squad ahead of the Champions League play-offs with PSV back in August.

Former club captain Ferguson told Go Radio he thinks Rangers have run out of time to sell their prized assets. He said: "Two players - when they go into the final 18 months or 12 months of their contracts, if they aren't going to sign then you can get a fair transfer fee back for them.

"Now? I think the players are in control of the situation because come January, if Rangers are looking to get a couple of million for both of them, one of them might say: 'No, I don't fancy that and I'll wait until the summer and go on a free transfer'.

"If a club is willing to pay whatever they're willing to pay, they would probably get part of that as their contract if they waited until the summer.”

Ferguson fears his old club are set to close out on major profits fearing the most the club could retrieve in January would be £1million or just over.

He added: "So I don't know why it's happened. The only people who can tell you the reasons are the people in the boardroom or Giovanni.

"What are you going to get for them in January if they do agree to go? £1 million pounds or just over? You paid £7-8m for Ryan Kent and about £1m for Morelos. You might get that back but it's a fair loss. Then you take wages into consideration. There needs to be some clarity."

Rangers face Aberdeen today in a huge Premiership clash with pressure mounting on boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Light Blues men are desperate for three points after a dismal draw against Livingston last week was coupled by another Champions League defeat at the hands of Napoli.
