Barry Ferguson insists Rangers should cash-in on players nearing the end of their deals before selling Calvin Bassey.
Bassey is in demand this summer with Aston Villa leading a host of English Premier League sides in the race for his signature.
Rangers will demand a bumper fee if they are to sell the 22-year-old after his spectacular end to the campaign.
However, Ferguson reckons a move shouldn't even be considered at this stage of Bassey's development.
Joe Aribo, Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are all out of contract in the summer of 2023, and the former Ibrox skipper reckons they must be moved on to avoid a repeat of Connor Goldson's exit.
Goldson is set to leave the Scottish Cup winners for free when his contract expires next month.
Ferguson told The Go Radio Football Show: "The worry is also having a Connor Goldson scenario with Morelos, Kent and Aribo and letting guys run down their contract.
"I think Rangers won't make that same mistake with guys like that going into the final year. They will say to them 'right, do you want to be here?' and if not Rangers will need to look at offloading.
"Rangers can't allow a Connor Goldson scenario again. If he had a year (left) you would get good money for Connor Goldson, no doubt about it.
"I think Rangers will be sitting down with these guys and seeing what kind of vibe they get. If they want to try something different, and if they do then Rangers might need to go and sell them.
"In terms of Bassey, I would be very surprised if Rangers haven't sat him down since the Scottish Cup final. I would have sat him down as soon as he came into the dressing room.
"He is Rangers biggest asset now.
"The three players I mentioned, you are talking £30million plus for the three of them.
"I honestly think they can't let the Goldson thing happen again.
"(Bassey) He has turned into a top player. If you drew a centre back you would draw Calvin Bassey.
"For me Rangers have got to get him tied down and just say to him have a full season here, continue your development and then you are talking about Kieran Tierney level (value)."
