Barry Ferguson says a new No9 at Rangers is high on the priority list as he opened up on the 'big job' Michael Beale has on his hands.
The Light Blues are set for a busy summer with a number of decisions to be made on out of contract players, fringe men and incoming additions. The 42-year-old has already stated a desire to add at least FIVE new faces - with Ibrox legend Fergie stating they are 'close' to adding a new star at the top end of the park.
Antonio Colak - signed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst - has enjoyed a solid debut season. Despite a few niggling injuries, he has found the back of the net 17 times in all competitions. Alfredo Morelos' deal is up in a matter of months and no news has been delivered on whether he will be staying or going. He joins the likes of Ryan Kent, Ryan Jack, Steven Davis and Allan McGregor on the list of players with a big decision to be made over.
Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin arrived in January to kick off the new era under Beale at Ibrox as he begins to put his stamp on things and while a No9 is 'so hard to find', Ferguson believes his former club are edging towards finding one.
Speaking on Go Radio, the former Rangers captain said. "Number nines, we have spoken about it. They are so hard to find, they cost the most money, Michael Beale has got a big job on his hands.
"I do believe they are closing to signing one. I don't know who it is, so it will be interesting to see. A No.9 is high on the priority list for me. I'm confident if he has the funds he (Beale) will bring in the right players."
Rangers lost out last weekend to Celtic in a five-goal thriller at Parkhead as Ange Postecoglou's men moved 12 points clear and edged closer to back-to-back league titles.
The duo go head to head once again in a matter of weeks at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final with the pundit picking out the one area of hope in order to stop the Scottish champions.
He added: "I think to stop Celtic, that is as many times I have seen Celtic give the ball away in a game and get harassed. If you stop Callum McGregor you do stop Celtic generally from playing. But when you get the ball you need to focus on your game and forget about where Callum McGregor is. You need to influence the game."
