Barry Ferguson names three Ross Wilson Rangers ideal replacements and explains why

Barry Ferguson has named THREE candidates who jump out to him as ideal replacements for Ross Wilson at Rangers.

The former sporting director has left the Light Blues after three-and-a-half years to make the move back down south of the border to join English Premier League side Nottingham Forest. Across that period the Ibrox men won a 55th league title under Steven Gerrard, a first Scottish Cup for 13 years, reached the Europa League Final before a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat and returned to the Champions League group stage.

Record transfer sells in the shape of Nathan Patterson to Everton and then Calvin Bassey to Ajax also came under his watch while the club also banked profit on Joe Aribo's switch to Southampton. A big summer awaits Michael Beale with recruitment plans well underway. He's already stated a desire to add FIVE fresh faces to the January captures of Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin with club legend Fergie stating it is 'crucial' a good relationship is struck up from the off with the next man coming in.

With that in mind, the Rangers idol has named three candidates who standout to him with all having a vast knowledge of the club and marketplace and what it takes to cut it at Ibrox.

Writing in his Daily Record column, he said: "It’s crucial that he [Beale] has a good relationship with whoever comes into the position of doing the deals on his behalf. And there are three obvious candidates which jump out at me where the new man is concerned - Davie Weir, Craig Moore and John Park. Three guys who know the club inside out and who share an encyclopaedic knowledge of the marketplace.

"Most importantly of all, they understand the qualities required for any player to cut it at a club like Rangers. And maybe that’s something the last man lacked when it came to his judgement.

"I don’t know John very well but I do know all about his reputation and it’s top notch. Davie has been heading up the recruitment at Brighton and when it comes to ‘player trading models’ I don’t think there’s a club anywhere in Europe which is doing it better.

"Every time the window opens they sell their best players for a small fortune. And, without fail, they bring in even more quality for a fraction of the price. So Davie would be a no-brainer in that regard, especially when you consider what he achieved at Ibrox as a player.

"The first question is, would he swap the Premier League for a return to Scottish football? And, if so, would Rangers be able to get close to matching his current wages?"
