Barry Ferguson has claimed that Rangers are "close" to signing a striker.
The former Ibrox captain made the revelation while speaking on Go Radio's Football Show.
The 45-year-old admitted he doesn't know who the potential transfer target is, but he is aware that his old club is closing in on a deal ahead of the summer.
Ferguson believes it's imperative that Michael Beale hones in on a game-changing striker to spearhead his Ibrox rebuild for next season, especially with Alfredo Morelos' likely departure, Kemar Roofe's injury record, and Antonio Colak's loss of form.
The ex-Scotland international said: "Number nines, we have spoken about it. They are so hard to find, they cost the most money, and Michael Beale has got a big job on his hands.
"I do believe they are close to signing one. I don't know who it is, so it will be interesting to see. A No.9 is high on the priority list for me.
"I'm confident if he has the funds he (Beale) will bring in the right players."
The chat on the airwaves then turned to Celtic star Kyogo.
Ferguson is a major admirer of the Japanese hitman and made his opinion clear on the 28-year-old.
He said: "He's a genuine pest, isn't he?"
Ahead of the Scottish Cup semi-final between Rangers and Celtic on April 30, he added: "I think to stop Celtic, that is as many times I have seen Celtic give the ball away in a game and get harassed. If you stop Callum McGregor you do stop Celtic generally from playing.
"But when you get the ball you need to focus on your game and forget about where Callum McGregor is. You need to influence the game."
