Barry Ferguson demands new manager puts end to Rangers 'revolving door'

Barry Ferguson insists whoever the new Rangers manager is must commit to at least three years at Ibrox.

The former Ibrox captain hit out at the recent "revolving door" in the dugout with Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Michael Beale both sacked after short stints.

The Dutchman lasted just over a year in the dugout with Beale managing little over ten months in charge at Ibrox.

Now, Ferguson is adamant the next Ibrox boss must be put in place for the foreseeable future - whether that be Kevin Muscat or Philippe Clement.

On Go Radio, he commented: "Rangers have done the process with four or five managers, whittling it down to two and then there will be second and third interviews. That's why they have taken their time, to make sure they get it spot on. The Rangers fans will demand that.

"I look at both of them (Clement and Muscat) and they both have good experience. I know what type of character Muscy is, there's been a lot made of his hard man persona and he was a tough cookie on the field, but a very intelligent guy as well. He thought a lot about the game and he's went on to be a manager for eleven years now. He's no novice.

"Clement has won trophies, went to Monaco was third in the first season then they're sixth and he got dismissed. The two of them are pretty close, and whoever gets the job will get the backing of the fans.

"It needs to be the right guy because it's been a revolving door for too long, too many managers. I firmly believe this new manager needs to be long-term, needs to be here for the next three to five years."

We earlier revealed that discussions between Rangers chiefs and the two leading candidates will continue into the weekend.
