Barry Ferguson delivers 'I think you know the answer' Rangers response when quizzed on Ibrox role

Barry Ferguson delivered an unsurprising response when quizzed on whether he'd like to be part of the Rangers coaching staff as he namechecked another former Ibrox star.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is under-fire after a string of poor results and performances. Last time out they drew with St Mirren to fall nine points behind Celtic in the title race. The result comes as part of a run that included dropped points at home to Livingston and defeat on the road against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

Ferguson is in no doubt an ex-club man is required in Govan to help turn fortunes around. He highlighted that Rangers is an institution and it always has to be about winning. He believes that sort of mentality is required back at Ibrox and a former player can bring that to the table, whether that be alongside Van Bronckhorst or someone else. After making that argument, Fergie was asked 'would you like to be involved?'

Speaking on Go Radio's Football Show, he said: "You don't need to ask me that. I think you know the answer.

"Rangers is my team. I was lucky enough to have the privilege to play there as captain and win so many trophies.

"So of course I would be. I would be lying if I said no.

"Listen, I'm enjoying my life just now. It's nice and quiet. But I do think it does need people in there that know the club, the demands and the expectations

"There's people out there that know that and that are not in a job. Doing similar to what I'm doing just now, a bit of punditry.

"I do think it's certainly needed."

Expanding on that point, he added: "One springs to mind, like a Neil McCann say, who has done a bit of management.

"I think it's needed that players like that come in and help a manager. It's something that I think is badly needed, no doubt in my mind.

"Glasgow Rangers is an institution. You're brought up on winning. You've got to win every single game.

"That's what I think is needed brought back into the club.."
