Barry Ferguson admits he would still "love" a return to Rangers after resigning his post at Alloa.
The Ibrox legend handed in his notice this afternoon just eight months after leaving Kelty Hearts to take over at the Indodrill.
He had targeted taking Alloa back into the Championship after their relegation last season, but leaves with the club facing a relegation scrap in League One.
But Ferguson still hopes to one day find a route back to his former side.
He told the Go Radio Football Show: "I don't care what level it is, whether it's 11-year-olds or a seasoned pro, at some stage I would love to get back to Rangers.
"There's no doubt about it but it's not happened for a number of reasons.
"It's still my club and I'll support them. I watch them, I hope they win every single game they play in."
Ferguson has previously held talks with Pedro Caixinha over becoming his assistant boss.
But he admits he never felt it was going to work under the flop boss.
He continued: "I was in for talks when Caixinha was there. I had a meeting. And I just felt it wasn't going to work.
"He had totally different ideas and you've got to respect that. He was asking me about different sides of the game in Scotland.
"I was explaining if you go to places like Pittodrie, Easter Road, Fir Park, Tynecastle - it's roll your sleeves up.
"Sometimes it's a battle. You can't always play the nice, attractive football. But he had a certain way he was going to play and that was the only way he was going to play.
"So unfortunately it never worked out and they went for Jonatan Johansson at the time and I wished him all the best."
"But you never know in the future."
Asked whether he's disappointed not to have been offered a role since, he added: "No, because it will not stop me still being a Rangers supporter.
"It's my club and I'll always support them.
"Would I like to be there? Of course. I'm not going so sit here and tell you a lie. I would love to get back at some level. Whether that will happen or not, I honestly don't know."
